How cool is this? A Large cent acting like a 3CS in copper? This coin is a R-5 (31-76 minted). It was intended to test the design to make a larger coin for the 3CS series. Obviously, they kept the teenie silver coins.
Imagine a GEM Proof Large Cent. That’s why this is. Unlike the Large cents though, this coin has real mirrors that offer bold reflectivity, great clarity, and ZERO imperfections. The color is virtually GEM MINT RED (with a little fading and some blue/violet on the reverse). There are NO spots. Miss Liberty and the details are needle sharp in strike and have light frost. The eye appeal is tremendous and will make your jaw drop and lock.
PCGS 2, NGC 0, CAC 1. The last auction record for a PR65 was back in 1994! Even if all 31 still existed, that’s really not a lot. A GEM PR 1863 3CS would sell for $7,500.00 and the commonest GEM PR 66RB Large Cent would be $10,000.00. We feel this coin offers unlimited potential!
