J-1217 $1 1872 PCGS PR64+RB

$35,000.00

This is a R8 (1-3 minted). It is a Commercial Dollar Pattern struck in copper. The quality is near miss PR65!

Technically, there is NO visible reason as to why PCGS would not grade this a PR65. We believe that an irregular patch of deeper toning holds it back. Both sides have full GEM Mirrors. They are crystal clear, deep, clean, and have bold reflectivity. Over 75% of this coin is ORIGINAL GEM MINT RED color. About 25% is a patch of deeper green/violet/brown colors that covers the upper left obverse field. Miss Liberty and the details are sharply struck. The eye appeal is exciting!

PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. The only other KNOWN specimen is in the Simpson Collection-an NGC PR65BN CA-which sold for $63,250.00 in 2007 Goldbergs. We cannot stress enough what an incredible opportunity this exceedingly rare pattern represents.
