At first glance this coin looks like a Proof! Upon further detailed inspection, you see tiny die polishing lines and planchet issues that prove its an early MS piece.
This piece is fully cameoed. The mirrors are clean, clear, and have strong reflectivity. Only with a strong glass can you detect the die polishing-to the naked eye this coin looks clean. There are NO discolorations or spots. The color is a beautiful yellow gold. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck and have a coating of thick frost. The eye appeal is knockout calibre!
Only 1600 pieces were ever minted. In regular MS 67 the pops are PCGS 101, NGC 96. PCGS does not designate PL. IN NGC PL, there are 14 graded. Non PL’s have been wholesaling in the $5,000.00 range. The last MS67 PL (NON CAC’d) to have sold at a major auction brought $4,887.00 09/08 Heritage.
