How these tiny early gold pieces stay in such amazing condition to us is certainly one of the wonders of this world! Think about it, this piece has survived 160 years pretty much without being touched. Its mind boggling.
The surfaces are satiny and have a strong luster. There are NO discolorations on the even deeper original yellow gold color. No problems are visible either. Miss Liberty and the details are amazingly struck and you do NOT need a glass to see them. The eye appeal is great.
PCGS 12, NGC 3. Only PCGS has graded one coin higher. Be glad this coin is not in a major auction. These tend to sell for extremely strong bids.The last one to appear in major auction brought $9,936.00 02/08 B+M. An NGC one sold for $10,350.00 10/07 Stacks.
This is a perfect coin if you are building a top Type or Gold Dollar Collection. Do NOT let the pops fool you, these hardly ever appear for sale.
