$5 1884CC PCGS MS61

$35,000.00

When the collector who was building the Pickering Creek Collection started, he wanted to buy the best specimens possible for each date. Not only did the holder matter, but he was just as concerned about the quality if the coin itself. That was quite evident with this great rarity!

This coin is definitely an MS61, NOT an AU58 parading as one. The obverse has a few small ticks and even a raised line or two, while the reverse is full MS62 quality and is fairly clean. A strong luster shows off the pretty even gold color. There are NO spots or discolorations. Miss Liberty and all of the details are exceptionally struck. CAC by stickering shows it has not been messed with. Even the pickiest buyer would not question this coins grade. The eye appeal is fabulous!

Only 16,402 were minted. This is one nearly impossible CC to find in true MS. In MS61 the pops are : PCGS 1, NGC 3. Only PCGS has graded ONE single coin higher (an MS62) while NGC has NONE. We think its irresponsible that the CDN people could even publish a number for that lone MS62 as it has not traded publicly since 2002. The last one to be in a major public auction sold for $29,900.00 1/07 Stacks (that’s TWO years ago)! these rarely trade in real MS condition. Opportunity knocks incredibly loud here-and may not knock again for a long time!
