Hard to believe that PCGS has actually graded one 1881CC a full GEM MS 65! We mention it because there is only one MS61 with no other PCGS coins in between. That’s powerful proof as to how this date generally does NOT come (nice)!
This coin is solid for the grade. Only under a powerful glass can you detect some minor imperfections like tiny tick and light lines. A strong luster brings out the deeper orange color. There are NO stains or discolorations on the high points. Miss Liberty and the details are very well struck. The eye appeal is pretty.
Only 13886 pieces were minted. PCGS 3, NGC 6. As we mentioned before, PCGS has only 2 coins higher, while NGC has 4. The last one of these to sell at a major public auction brought $10,350.00 09/05 Stacks. Do not be fooled by the pops, this is a very rare and hard to find date in any grade of AU.
