$5 1862S PCGS XF45

Hard to see why PCGS did not designation this piece an AU.

Slightly “flat” surfaces do actually emit a light luster. They have a few old lines and teenie ticks-but none are serious or are numerous. The color is an even ‘old time” gold. Miss Liberty and the details are very well struck. You really do NOT see much wear. The eye appeal is nice!

ONLY 9500 were minted. PCGS 8, NGC 8, CAC 1. PCGS has possibly graded only 12 coins higher. This is the highest graded CAC’d 62S! The last auction record for an XF45 we could find-was 03/2004 ANR-where the coin realized $6,440.00! Even in AU, the auction record show none have been sold since the mid 2000’s. IS this proof enough of this dates extreme rarity???
