3CS 1872 PCGS MS64

$6,500.00

Outside of the PCGS MS67 we placed in the #1 ALL TIME registry set we built (see the Law Collection), we have only owned (or handled) one other 1872 MS piece-and that was an MS64 as well. That was back in 2006! We just bought this coin from a major dealers personal collection.

No question this piece is an MS. The surfaces are semi-prooflike and show die polishing marks (Mint made) only when viewed with a strong glass. The luster is exceptionally strong. Some very faint gold covers both sides. All of the details are sharply struck and have thick white frost. The eye appeal is tremendous!

The great rarity of this date in ANY MS63 and higher grade is undisputed. ONLY 1000 were ever minted. PCGS 6, NGC 13. PCGS has graded only 6 coins higher (we have the lone MS67 in our all time finest set). The last MS64 to appear at auction sold for $6,900.00 05/07 Heritage. We are pleased to own and present 3CS collectors with this tremendous opportunity.

A quickie education about pricing. The CDN sheet “bid” price shows $1,800.00. We would happily buy the other 5 PCGS coins for that sightUNSEEN (if you have them just ship at that price-we’ll take dreck at that price). How they can even think of posting that price is insane. Even the NGC MS64’s have sold in the mid $3,000.00 range with NONE having sold after 2007. So of course, coins like these are going to trade for way over any published price. This bolsters our argument that coins like this should not have ANY prices even posted (since the last one known to have traded was back in 2007)! If you are building a choice or GEM set, do NOT miss this seldom seen opportunity.
