This is the rare Horizontal S variety. At first glance, this coin is identical to any Proof! This piece is the FINEST known of the variety.

We’ve seen 1877 Proofs with lesser mirrors. The flash/reflectivity is mind boggling! Only with a strong glass can you see some light die polishing lines and tiny tick or two. Overall, the surfaces are clean. Both sides have a semi mottled mix of totally original russet/pale navy/champagne colors scattered all over. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck and stand out with thick frost. You do NOT need a glass to see the S/S. The eye appeal actually is dazzling!
