25C 1857 PCGS PR64

$6,000.00

BUCKEYE II COLLECTION. There is no question this is a very choice and totally original Proof. The mirrors are strong, clear, clean, and have bold reflectivity. A mellow color of champagne/dove gray covers both sides. It is important to note this coin is NOT dull. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck and stand out. We think only the light lint mark in the right field keeps this coin from being a full PR65.

The extreme rarity if this date in proof is undeniable. We once had an original 1857 PR set-saved by a family since it left the Mint which had an MS piece instead of a PR 25C. We later came to hear that when they would make up these sets not all the coins had always been struck-hence the substitution. And probably hence the lower mintage. PCGS 9, NGC 6.
