These are extremely rare when they are unmolested and are true GEM’s (like this coin). Matte Proof Gold has really suffered over the past few years due to over stripping of their original skin and gradeflation. PCGS is so ridiculously tight on what they grade of these we have seen numerous instances when they refused to slab a nice coin! CAC is also extremely tough on what they sticker.
No question this coin is 100% ORIGINAL. There is no putty and it has not been stripped. The surfaces are fresh matte texture and have that special sparkle. Only one or two MINOR shinny spots can be found-however there are NO black spots. The color is a rich deep sand. All of the details are pinpoint sharp in strike and look sculpted! Even though these are not brilliant mirrored proofs, a superb coin like this DOES indeed have great eye appeal.
Only 191 were minted. PCGS 17, NGC 20, CAC 1. According to our records, the last one to sell at major auction went for $28,750.00 1/2008 Heritage. We strongly believe in the potential of all ORIGINAL Matte Pr gold.
