$2.5 1840 PCGS MS64

This is a stunning first year of the series example. We have been collectors of $2.5 Liberty gold pieces for nearly 35 year and this is the first MS64 truly choice example we have ever seen. We do not know id the other coin graded by PCGS exists.

Quality wise, this coin is well worthy of its designation. Only some small chatter/bagginess on the left obverse field is visible. It does not stand out to the naked eye. Both sides do radiate a full booming luster. You can also see traces of semi-prooflike mirrors. Miss Liberty and the details are exceptionally struck-although the eagles left leg is some what weak (as struck). We do consider the reverse to be of borderline MS65 quality. The eye appeal of this coin is amazing!

PCGS 2, NGC 7, CAC 1. Until this coin surfaced, the last time one of these sold was back in 2001 (it realized $17,000.00). If you collect $2.5 Libs or are building a first year Type set, this a “must see” coin!
