$2.5 1796 PCGS AU58

$215,000.00

Legend Numismatics is proud to own and offer this first year special coin for sale to our collecting friends. It is clearly superior to the majority of 1796 $2.5’s you will ever see!

Lets start with what you see on so many others: this coin is NOT: tooled, whizzed, cleaned, scrubbed up, recolored, puttied, or scratched up. yes, you WILL find what we just described on some coins in holders. It is a true rarity to find a coin like this. Both sides are smooth, clean, and have a light luster. The color is a bright yellow gold. There are NO discolorations or spots. Miss Liberty and the details are well struck and do stand out. The eye appeal is nothing less than fabulous!

NOTE: CAC stickered this coin easily. They are extremely tough on very early gold like this (the principal-John Albanese has handled more early gold than anyone). We’ll bet over the next few years, less than 40% of all 1796 $2.5 will be deemed acceptable for stickering. Yes, believe it or not, the sticker on this coin IS that important! So many of these have been messed with.

ONLY 963 pieces were ever minted. We doubt the pops are correct (so many have been cracked and “processed”). PCGS 14, NGC 22. The last one to sell at a major public auction brought $212,750.00 11/07 Stacks. This is NOT that coin! Even NGCs sell for $184,000.00.
