It boggles our minds how this piece has survived for over 174 years in such a pristine state of preservation. Keeping silver from corroding is hard enough, but to keep copper so fresh and ORIGINAL? WOW!
The planchet and surfaces are unbelievable PERFECT! Use the strongest glass you can, you will find NO spots, chips, or marks. There is a really cool die crack that runs from 11:00 to 1:00 in the stars on the obverse-but that’s as made. A full luster also shows off the beautiful 40% ORIGINAL Mint Red color and even the brown on the balance. Miss Liberty and the details are just amazingly struck. The eye appeal is phenomenal!
PCGS 6, NGC 1, CAC 2. In 2009 TWO specimens sold: one for $4,600.00, the other for $5,175.00. This coin was purchased via private treaty. In our opinion, this coin is a steal in today’s market place. There are NO other coins from 1837 you can buy in flawless MS66 for this price-even Half Dimes are more (if you can find any)!
