1C 1820/19 PCGS MS65BN N-3

This coin is NOT from the recent Naftzger sale and is NOT labeled Naftzger. However it is an extremely rare and desirable coin that definitely has all the characteristics of being from the finest collection of Large Cents ever assembled.

THIS COIN LAST APPEARED FOR SALE IN 2001-RAW. At the time it was graded EAC MS64RB.

This coin was also the Red Book plate coin for the 1977/78 edition.

This coin is clearly not just a brown, it borders on full mellow RB. Both sides have an intense luster that show off VERY visible traces of ORIGINAL Mint Red color. The surfaces are extremely clean over all and only show a scattered toning spot or two. There are NO discolorations. Miss Liberty and the details are exceptionally struck. The 1 is clearly visible to the naked eye through the 2 in the dare. The monster quality and total originality of this GEM are unquestionable. The eye appeal is fantastic too!

For any 20/19 the pops are PCGS 2, NGC 2. No BN’s have been graded higher. In RB ONLY PCGS has ONE 65 and 66-thats it. Of course there are NO RD’s. We also are fortunate to know this coin has the ULTIMATE and longest traced pedigree for a 1820/19 Large cent (or any early Large cent for that matter):

The collector from whom we obtained this magnificent GEM also told us: In Noyes’ book, he lists this coin as tied with two others (called 2nd finest at that time). Those two coins are now being called tied for the finest in the Naftzger catalog, and they appeared as lots 93 and 94. Lot 93 was graded PCGS-MS65RB (EAC-MS64) and it realized $12,075; #94 was MS66RB (EAC-MS65), and it realized $17,825.
