Its wicked awesome to see any coin from 1797 that is nearly GEM. Its hard to imagine where it has been or how it was stored for over 212 years! Not many this old have survived this well!
There are more blemishes on the coin than the holder. The surfaces are exceptionally clean and actually have a trace of original luster. Amazingly, the planchet is excellent and there is no porosity or hits. The color is a light golden brown/chocolate. Miss Liberty and the details are incredibly struck. The eye appeal will WOW you as well as it would if it were a monster colored silver coin!
This is only the second example of a 1797 1C we have ever handled. PCGS 31, NGC 5. This coin as NOT been in ANY recent auction. Auction records for 2008 go from a recent $14,100.00 up to $19,550.00.
