1C 1793 CHAIN AMERICA PCGS MS63 BN S-2

$495,000.00

EX DAN HOLMES COLLECTION. We bought this coin with two of the smartest veteran copper dealers as partners. It is everyone’s consensus that this coin really could be an MS64 (NO promises are made in that regard) if PCGS understood the date better. Also, it may very well be the FINEST MS63 Chain Cent in existence! We have just confirmed it used to be an NGC MS64BN.

At first glance, its hard to believe this coin was among the very first ever minted by our country 216 years ago. It definitely was not crude in striking. The surfaces are amazingly clean and the planchet the coin was struck on lacked porosity and was really problem free. Some light luster does remain as does some slight gloss. There are NO spots or discolorations. The overall color is a stunning light chocolate brown. Most dramatic and important: Miss Liberty and the details are exceptionally struck. They boldly stand out. The eye appeal is definitely superior to most and will blow you away!

The extreme rarity of this coin can never be overstated. PCGS 5, NGC 0, CAC 2. After 20+ years of operations, PCGS has graded only ONE MS64, 65, and then ONE MS67BN! NGC has 2 64’s, 2 65’s and one MS66BN. There are NO recent auction records for an MS63 Chain Cent. One of 3 graded PCGS MS62’s sold in a major auction last year for $253,000.00 (02/08 Heritage). We can see the day coming soon when all MS63 and higher pieces are worth $1,000,000.00.

It is not very often you can buy an exceptional Chain Cent that grades above AU (even in AU58 these are $150,000.00++). A coin like this deserves to be in a museum or a great collection. Even if you are building a GEM Type or Large Cent Collection, this coin will easily be a welcome fit. As we like to say, Opportunity knocks loud here!
