10C 1859 TRANSITIONAL PCGS PR66

$39,500.00

Even though this is a J-233 (a pattern) we will list this in the Dime section. We have seen many Dime collectors places these in their sets. The other PR66 was upgraded from a 65. While still a nice coin, it does not hold a candle to this totally original GEM!

The quality of this piece is amazing! You can tell it remained untouched for virtually its entire 150 year existence. Both sides have exceptionally strong mirrors that reveal NO problems anywhere. They are also clear and have strong flash. A moderate mix of totally original pale purple/lavender/gold toning evenly blankest both sides. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck and do have thick frost. The eye appeal is tremendous!

We suspect this coin maybe still be in the original holder since it was purchased (then graded) out of Eliasberg in 1997.

PCGS 2, NGC 0. We sold a PR65 for $29,900.00 in 2008 thru a B+M Sale 09/08 (after paying $27,500.00 privately). A PR66 sold in a major auction for $41,400.00 4/05 B+M (we did not look into it-it could have been this coin). It is estimated that there are only 12 of these “Stateless” (non origin designated) coins made. Seems like a strong value today. Also, this coin will make a monster addition to any GEM Dime Collection or Pattern set! The pedigree is Eliasberg-which to this day remains the greatest collection of US coins EVER assembled.
