This is a grossly under respected and under valued date. The last time one sold in a major public auction was 2003. The price guides are just plain wrong on this date and grade!
The quality of this coin is full GEM, all there and then some. No question this coin is 100% original and has never been messed with. The surfaces are smooth and are clean as can be. An even mix of moderate blue/pewter covers both sides. There is a small toning dot at about 10:00 on the obverse. Miss Liberty and the details are sharply struck and do stand out. The eye appeal is fantastic!
PCGS 7, NGC 3, CAC 1. There is only ONE coin graded finer by PCGS. Take our word on it, you NEVER EVER see this date in GEM offered. We do not believe the pop of 7 is correct. The fact that NONE have been sold at public auction since 2003 proves how rare this date is in GEM. We do also think this is a great “put away” piece even if you are not building a Dime set.
