An amazing example of this extremely rare and desirable date. Why PCGS did not at least + this coin is unknown to us.
No question this coin has been sitting in either tissue paper or cardboard holder for a very long time. The toning is ORIGINAL. A lively royal blue/pale purple color evenly covers both sides. The colors are vibrant. You can clearly see the surfaces which are super clean and have a decent luster. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck and stand out. This coin tends to remind you more of an 1880’s piece than a 1844! The eye appeal is terrific!
PCGS 4, NGC 1, CAC 3 (this coin is 2 of them). PCGS has graded only ONE coin finer (which is locked away in major collection). In 1/11 an NGC (NON CAC) sold for $34,500.00 Stacks.
