Finally, an 08D that has NOT been messed with. For whatever reason, we believe the majority of this date have been monkeyed with in one way or another (we even have an MS65 that’s been recolored in our office right now). Its disgusting, so when we see a real honest MS64+ like this, we buy it and say thank you!
To start, BOTH sides are totally original (we can’t begin to tell you how many we have seen with putty). There is nothing worse than a few light and scattered lines. A surprisingly strong luster also shows off but light two tone yellow/orange gold colors. There are NO discolorations or spots. Miss Liberty and the details are extremely well struck and appear boldly. The eye appeal is fantastic!
PCGS 34, NGC 19, CAC 3. PCGS has possibly graded ONLY 7 coins higher. The next step up will cost at least $35,000.00 if you can find one of the 2 PCGS MS65’s. This coin did NOT come out of any auction-it was part of a collection that was broken up recently.
