THE LONG BEACH SHOW REPORT

LONG BEACH IS ALIVE!

WOW, never thought we’d say that. For us, from start to finish this show had legs. We know some people had great shows, some moderate, and some great shows. Legend Numismatics had a very good show. NOTE: it is still our opinion that this show and the summer Baltimore need to end. One good show does not change things overall.

For us, selling was fair. We did make a few new collector customers-something that has not happened to us at Long Beach for years. Dealer to dealer selling was good too. Our “super secret stealth seller” could have stopped the first day when he sold $300,000.00 (and the show had not even begun)! In the end, he enjoyed a HUGE show-one of his best all year.

We took a walk around several times looking for coins to buy. At the end of the show we found something uber cool. But we noticed the back of the show, the isles were clogged with collectors buying and selling. We did see lots of cheaper gold and bullion trading hands. For us, we were just awed by the activity we saw. Its been a long time coming.

A small spurt up in gold may have been the push for people to come out. We think more consumer confidence brought out the crowd as well. Brett Charville, PCGS Prez stopped by to say hi to us and assure us they are working hard to keep up the pressure on the bad guys, It was also nice to see Don Willis (with Tank his beloved Corgie) and David Hall back at the show.

While selling was good, Legend Numismatics is thrilled to say we spent serious money for the first time in years. In fact, we believe we spent nearly $1 million dollars-half of which was for Want Lists. We bought 3 six figure coins. We also bought some wicked cool Patterns including a $3 Copper Amazonian in GEM. Virtually none of that money was spent at the auctions (very little for us this time which was rare). In the past week (Sat to Sat), Legend Numismatics has now sold $2,000,000.00! It feels really good. We believe this spurt will continue.

So overall, the choppiness of the market is still there, but it seems to be smoothing out. Collectors realize there are few coins to be had and are now stepping up and buying what they can. Have certain price gone up? Yes, you bet yeah. BUT there are still areas like MS+PR 3CN that are dead.  Just hope you don’t need a top pop registry coin from an auction-ouch will that hurt!

NEWPS

Sorry, this week we are posting no NEWPS due to vacations. We’ll be back with a really great and fresh offering next Saturday (and oh do we mean that). Until then we suggest you check out our inventory that is listed. We do not expect all those coins to be available forever as demand becomes stronger.
