1856 3C Three Cent Silver Type 2 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)

$18,500.00

Well look what we have here, probably the second finest graded 1856 Trime. This coin originally sold in our 07/2017 auction for $16,450.00. Apparently the buyer upgraded! The quality of this coin is remarkable!

Here is the description (slightly edited on the numbers side) fro that sale:

Our sister firm, Legend Numismatics, has a reputation for handling the FINEST and rarest U.S. Coins, but there are certain series in which they have unparalleled expertise, and the 3 cent silvers are one such area. The Legend has built the top sets of 3CS in both Mint State and Proof, so if we say a coin is HIGH END, or beautiful, rest assured that it really is. This 1856 is tied for second finest graded by PCGS.

Bold frosty luster shines on both sides of this nicely struck and lightly toned gem. The quality of the presently offered GEM is superb.

PCGS 3, NGC 5, CAC 2. PCGS has graded only 2 in MS66+ and one MS67+ higher. The other one sold in a very soft market, January 2016 for $9,400. The last regular PCGS MS66 CAC sold for $15,275 in July 2015 and the sole finest MS67+ PCGS/CAC sold for $31,200 in 09/2020. The current PCGS Price Guide for a 66+ is listed at $16,000. This coin should bring somewhere in our estimate range. What a great coin for any advanced collector!

It is Legend Numismatics (being a strong student of the series) that this date and graded are grossly UNDERrated, UNDERrespected, and UNDERvalued. One this coin is sold, good luck at finding the other!

We do want to note: there are some very light roller marks on the obv. They do NOT effect the grade or eye appeal. This coin is rare in MS65 or higher!
