If we call a coin GEM AU, that means its HIGH END and looks great for its grade.
This is a totally ORIGINAL coin (vs so many that have been cleaned or messed with). The surfaces are extremely clean and smooth. Typical to the date, the luster is soft in the centers and more visible by the rims. Both sides are an original gold color. There are NO spots or discolorations. Miss Liberty ans the details are sharply struck. The wear is very light. The eye appeal is terrific!
ONLY 3000 were minted. PCGS 6, NGC 3, CAC 3. PCGS has graded only 3 higher-after 30 years of operations. The last time one of these sold in auction was 10/2010 (of course it was a non CAC piece). The current Collectors Universe Value is $7,500.00. In our opinion, this date is the poorer step child of the extremely rare 1864+1865. So its grossly overlooked and is grossly UNDERvalued. Good luck finding another-we know you won’t find one better!
