Not only is this coin a WOW-but it is of SUPER HIGH END quality!
It is a very well known fact this date was struck from rusted dies. This coin clearly exhibits that. The surfaces while extremely clean are slightly granular. You can see some very neat die clashing. A full booming luster really enlivens the totally original soft gold/pearl white colors. Miss Liberty and the details are incredibly fully struck. The eye appeal is outstanding!
PCGS 1, NGC 1, CAC 2. We unhesitatingly proclaim this coin to be the FINEST 1861S that exists! Until this coin surfaced, a PCGS MS65 sold for $23,000.00 11/2012 Heritage (the coin offered here was always an MS66). These are not only rare, but are a very desirable Civil War date. The current Collectors Universe Value is $30,000.00. We do not understand why this coin is not worth $50,000.00!
