Having built the all time FINEST EVER MS 3CS set, we know what it takes to have a great 1866. The coin in the #1 set is an MS68. This coin is a near miss MS68 and is just an amazing coin!
Incredibly clean surfaces have zero imperfections of ANY size. All you can see with a strong glass are light die striations (Mint made) and some die clashing (also Mint made). A surprisingly strong luster shows off the brilliant and totally ORIGINAL blue/violet/gold color mix that covers 2/3 of the obverse and all of the reverse. Every detail is pinpoint sharp in strike and has strong frost. The eye appeal is phenomenal!
PCGS 8, NGC 3, CAC 3. This si the ONLY MS67+ graded by PCGS. It did sell in auction for $23,000.00 11/2013 Heritage. Save for the MS68, we have never seen ANY 1866 close to this coin!
