J- 98 50C 1839 PCGS PR64+RB RESTRIKE
$37,500.00
This “head right” Pattern design by Longacre is an extremely high R-7 (4-6 known). It is struck in copper. The reverse is the regular Half Dollar design.
In our opinion (remember we have handled the worlds most precious and exotic patterns) this coin is simply jaw dropping phenomenal and is a classic rarity in the world of patterns. The design is elegant. We never ever see similar pieces (or any 1839 patterns) ever offered. Our Simpson specimen is A PR64BN.
Quality wise, this coin is a near miss PR65RB. We think a few INVISIBLE lines (only can be seen w/a glass) are what keep this from PR65. The mirrors are incredible: they are deep, clear, and have stunning reflectivity. How many coins from 1839 do you think exist of any metal with FULL PROOF mirrors? No question this coin is totally ORIGINAL. The color is a rich faded MINT red/red brown/blue/pale violet. A few toning spots can be seen. Miss Liberty and the details are needle sharp in strike and actually have light frost. In fact this coin DOES have light contrast. The eye appeal is so incredible we have just twirled it and twirled it since we bought it. Its a hard coin to put down!
PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. THIS IS THE FINEST J-98. NONE have been in auction since way back in 1992 (a PR65BN was sold back then). This coin is a fresh coin to the market. We are pleased to own and offer this extreme rarity. Think about it, if it were a PR64 silver 1839 50C it would be worth $250,000.00! This once in a life time opportunity certainly will be a highlight in ANY pattern collection.
