$2.5 1864 PCGS AU58

These generally do NOT come nice. In fact, after 25+ years of operations and millions of coins, there is only ONE coin higher-a PCGS MS61. By far, this is the nicest AU we have ever seen. We have been students of this date since we became numismatists over 40 years ago! The new owner of this GEM AU piece will have the ultimate $2.5 (next to a 54S) and really will have a tremendous rarity!

To start, this coin does have light ORIGINAL luster showing along with light semi-prooflike mirrors. With a glass you can see only a light line or tick or two. There really are NO problems on this coin. Some light striations (die polishing) can also be seen. The color is a totally ORIGINAL yellow gold. There are NO spots or stains and the coin has NOT been dipped. Miss Liberty and the details are extremely well struck. The wear is very light and is hard to detect. The eye appeal is wonderful!

ONLY 2824 were ever minted. PCGS 2, NGC 2, CAC 1. This was the NGC AU58. A PCGS AU55 sold for $46,000.00 in 2011. Again, we can NOT stress enough the extreme rarity of this date. We strongly believe there have only been 3-4 AU’s (50-58) ever graded-even though the pops show 9 total between BOTH PCGS/NGC. Prior to 2011 NONE had been sold at auction since 2006 and 2002.
