J- 48 25C 1827 PCGS PR65BN EX WOODIN

$57,500.00

This is really a restrike. It is a copper trial Pattern. The rarity is R-7 (4-12 minted). Can’t beat the quality or eye appeal.

Unfortunately, these (all J-48’s) were all struck from rusted dies. That means when you put a glass to it, you will see small “bubbles” of metal. Fortunately, to the naked eye the surfaces look smooth. There is surprisingly strong mirrors for a coin struck on such a poor planchet. There are NO real problems. We think PCGS simply was afraid of the rusted strike and wouldn’t grade it 66 for that reason. Both sides are a totally natural chocolate brown with pale hints of blue/gold colors. Miss Liberty and all of the details are lightly frosted and have needle sharp strikes. The eye appeal is phenomenal!

PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. The last record of ANY sold in auction was a NGC PR63BN back in 2009 for $32,200.00. A PR65RB last sold in 2004 for $35,000.00. NONE have been for sale recently. This coin had been a long deceased dealers personal piece for over 30 years until a few months ago! It is our strong opinion a great coin like this should be six figures. The market certainly has room for a coin like this to grow in value.

Legend Numismatics is proud to own and offer this magnificent and extremely rare Pattern.
