This is one of the VERY BEST MS full RED examples from the 1840’s we have seen (and we have handled many Naftzger coins). We sent this coin in for a quick regrade at PCGS-obviously, we got no where. We unquestionably grade this coin a MS64.9++!
We can’t say enough about the outrageous quality and total ORIGINALITY of this coin. It is a 100% FULL MINT RED GEM. Both sides are incredibly clean. A few minor planchet flakes can be seen only with a strong glass. The luster is surprisingly tremendous. There are NO spots. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and have sharp strikes (save for 4 stars on the left obverse). The eye appeal is incredible!
PCGS 3, NGC 0, CAC 1. We do not believe there are 3 PCGS coins. There certainly are NO auction records for ANY in the past decade. The ONLY coin finer, is an NGC MS65RD (which last sold in 2002). The extreme rarity and quality of this coin can not be duplicated. You can offer $50,000.00 and you will never buy a similar coin. A must see if you LOVE ORIGINAL MINT RED copper.
