5C 1883 NO CENTS PCGS MS66

HAL COLLECTION. Oops! Someone forgot to put the word “Cents” on. This allowed for the characters of the day to plate the coins in some sort of yellow metal and pass them off as gold pieces. The nickname for them is “racketeers nickels”.

Clearly, this is no racketeer! Only some very minor die polishing lines are visible with a strong glass, otherwise this coin is exceptionally clean. There are light prooflike mirrors that add lots of flash. A light splash of gold is visible at 10:00 on the obverse. Miss Liberty and the details are frosted and have full strikes. The eye appeal is really nice.
