G $1 1849 CLOSED WREATH PCGS MS66

We have now owned 3 of the 4 graded. This coin ranks right smack in the middle of the quality range.

This coin has powerful quality for such a small coin. Forget about the fact it is 160 years old too! Both sides have an the type of bold intense luster you’d see an a common $20 Lib. Overall, the surfaces are clean (actually clean with light Mint made striations from die polishing), but only under a strong glass can you see a light and scattered line or two. There are NO discolorations-however at 6:00 on the reverse there is a very tiny copper stain (which proves this coin is original). Miss Liberty and the details are crisply struck and appear boldly. The eye appeal is dazzling!

PCGS 4, NGC 1. There are NONE higher by either PCGS or NGC. There are NO recent auction records. The last one we purchased was via a private transaction in 02/07. At that time we paid $8,500.00. It is locked away in a private collection (as is the other one we handled). Obviously, we paid a bit more to get this coin. Not all coins are down due to the economy! Here you have a real rarity that never appears.
