$1 1853 PCGS MS64

$15,000.00

Originally we placed this coin in what we know to be the #2 set of MS Seated Dollars. Recently we replaced it with a stunning GEM MS65 1853 (which cost us six figures). One look and you can see why this was in a GEM set.

At first glance, the coin does appear to look like a low end MS65. The surfaces are extremely clean, smooth, and velvety looking. A surprisingly strong luster shows off a pretty light to moderate mix of pewter/pale blue/pale purple colors. Miss Liberty and the details are exceptionally struck with only minor weakness visible on the bottom stars. This is not a date that quality wise comes looking nice. The eye appeal of this piece however IS exceptional!

PCGS 13, NGC 34. Keep in mind, after 20+ years of operations (and this series being one of David Halls all time favorites-so PCGS is real tight on how it grades these) PCGS has only graded TWO in MS65 (both locked up tight in major sets) and one lone MS66. It is our strong opinion after years and years of searching for the finest GEM MS Seated Dollars, this date is grossly underrated and undervalued.
