3CS 1861 PCGS PR65

1861 is our all time favorite date. Its the beginning of the Civil War, the survival rates of coins are not high, and its 148 years ago! We buy ALL PR 1861 coins in GEM that we like.

This is a totally original GEM. It actually has very strong mirrors that enliven a beautiful mix of navy/gold/blue/purple/green colors. You can easily see there are NO defects under the colors. Every detail is razor sharp in strike and stands out. The eye appeal is very nice.

Do not be fooled by the mintage of 1000. Most coins were melted due to poor sales of Proof sets. PCGS 19, NGC 16. PCGS has 3 in 66, and 3 in 67. Still, you do not see this date in ANY grade offered with any frequency.
