10C 1800 PCGS MS63

$56,500.00

This is formerly from the amazing Ed Price Collection of Bust Dimes. Ed was totally fascinated by this coins wide double striking. Here are his words from his sale catalog: For a collector interested in errors, this coin is a delight. I was surprised it did not cause more interest at the Bolen sale. The multiple strike was visible in the catalog plate–the dentils in cloud 6 were obvious. Even a cursory examination of the coin shows lots of interesting detail on both the obverse and reverse. I had never seen a Draped Bust dime “error” coin in Mint State–all the errors I was aware of then (and now) were below Fine. After the sale, I discussed it with a few of the dealers at the auction–they hadn’t noticed the error. Regardless, we are not error nuts and we are in awe of the coins overall qualities.

Save for just a touch of softness in the strike, this coin is knocking at MS64’s door. The surfaces are smooth, have remarkably cleanliness, and even a decent luster. Some natural pale pewter color covers both sides. Miss Liberty and the details are exceptionally struck. The eye appeal is phenomenal for an MS63 coin that’s 209 years old!

The rarity even in XF is undeniable (XF’s sell for $5,000.00). PCGS 2, NGC 1. PCGS has graded a MS65 and MS66. NGC just has 2 MS65’s. This may very well be on e fo the few opportunities to ever acquire a truly choice 1800 10C. This coin sold in the Ed Price sale for $51,750.00 07/08 Heritage.
