$5 1852D PCGS MS62

Legend Numismatics always dabbles in areas we think are undervalued. Finest known ORIGINAL C+D Mint coins in our opinion definitely are. So many have been “processed” or are just pitiful. We have been trying to buy really nice pieces when we think the quality and value are all there. Of course this piece to us was a “no brainer”!

Not bad at all for an MS62. This piece blows away the majority of generics we have seen! both sides are pretty clean to the naked eye-although under a strong glass you can see some light lines/small scuffs. The luster is surprisingly strong and shows off the beautiful even soft gold color. Miss Liberty and the details are well struck-although there is some minor weakness in the stars. Keep in mind, this is a D Mint coin-not a generic. These were all crudely made and there for true nice looking coins hardly ever existed. The good thing, this coin DOES have wonderful eye appeal.

We can not over emphasize the extreme rarity of this coin in ANY grade of true MS. We feel PCGS was right on grading it a MS62. Plus, the folks at CAC-who have probably seen as much C+D Mint gold as anyone gave it their sticker of approval too! For many years, the telemarketers abused C+D Mint gold. Since they have moved on to other areas, prices have fallen dramatically to levels we think are ridiculously cheap. Keep in mind, these pieces are from a historic obsolete Mint! And this coin ranks among the finest of the survivors!

PCGS 2, NGC 6. PCGS has ONLY graded 2 coins finer, while NGC has 3. And so what if a hoard ever popped up? It probably would have no more than 5-6 coins! These D Mint coins are super rare!
