50C 1856S PCGS MS64

This coin is a beloved “old friend” to Legend. We are the people who purchased it direct out of Eliasberg. We then placed it with a collector who kept it until two years ago. We then placed it with the current owner who is working on a different major project now. We love to welcome coins like this back. You can tell this 160 year old coin sat around undisturbed for a long time. Mark and even tiny ticks are hard to find-even when using a strong glass. The surfaces do look clean and smooth to the naked eye. There actually are traces of semi-prooflike light mirrors when you twirl the coin.The luster is decent. Both sides are covered by a pale creamy lavender/soft gold color. Miss Liberty and the details are needle sharp in strike. The eye appeal is fabulous! PCGS 2, NGC 1, CAC 1. We fully rank this coin as the FINEST KNOWN 56S (we have seen the other). We also must note: it is a powerful statement that after 30+ years of grading PCGS nor NGC have graded ANY MS65’s. In fact, there is only ONE MS63 by PCGS. It is safe to say generally this date does not come so nice. Of course this beautiful coin is the exception! This is the coins SECOND appearance for sale since 1997! Opportunity could not knock any louder here!
